According to Zambian investment agency, the country aims to become the world's fifth top copper producer by 2015 due to massive investments in the sector.

Zambia's copper output currently ranked seventh in the world but is showing the potential of producing about 1.5 million tons of copper per year, and is believed to achieve the target by year 2015.

Major foreign direct investments that have been injected into the sector included First Quantum Minerals at US$ 3 billion; London listed Vedanta Resources at US$ 2 billion; China Non Ferous Metal Mining Group at US$ 2 billion and US$ 1 billion by Brazil's Vale.

The country urges foreign investors to come and invest for its unlimited repatriation of profits as well as abundant natural resources because it has a positive and investor friendly economic environment.
